My Favorite Things

We are having our first major snowfall and I am happily nestled beneath a blanket, sipping coffee.  Tom, has cleared our drive and walkways, once already and soon it will need it again.  I have cinnamon apples simmering in the crock pot and my chores are done..sigh.  We have been busy, hustling to and fro...Christmas Concerts, swim meets and now the start of high school basketball will keep this ol' Grammy young!  LOL.
My Christmas shopping is about finished, no cards have I signed and nothing has been baked...As we get older, I bake less, usually just some Hungarian pastries that are our favorites.
Yes, it's the most wonderful time of the year...Christmas trees, candles, twinkling lights and snow, these are a few of my favorite things.
Peace and Blessings my friends.

I Have Never Worn My Country's Uniform

After reading this ...I felt it says it all...Thank you to our Vets and those serving still.

My name is Derrick Wilburn. I live in Colorado, USA and I would consider myself a typical "John Q. Citizen." I have three wonderful children and I was there for all of their births, there for first teeth coming in, there to see first steps taken, there to help teach them how to tie shoe laces and throw a baseball, there for graduation ceremonies from the kindergarten. I've taken them to YMCA league basketball practice, and soccer, and dance, and whatever else they've been into. I took the training wheels off of all of their bikes and ran beside them on those wobbly first attempts at two-wheeling it.
Though I've missed a few, I've been there to watch their games. Been there to blow runny noses, help them figure out how two minus three can result in a number that's less actually than zero. Made them peanut butter and jelly sandwiches when they were hungry. Gone hiking in the summer, sledding in winter.
With the exception of nights that I've slept in a comfortable hotel room, I sleep in a king-sized bed with the one I love every night for the past nineteen years. I eat hot meals when I desire. I've never really volunteered to lay my life on the line for anyone, let alone perfect strangers. I've never pulled a sixteen-hour patrol shift, never climbed to the top of some sand hill in 115 degree heat wearing Kevlar body armor, a 65-pound backpack and carrying a 15-pound machine gun. I've never slept in a hole in the ground that I'd dug just hours before, or in the crawl-space beneath a Humvee while sucking diesel fumes or trying to block out the thunder from passing birds of war.
When I'm hot, I turn up the a/c; when cold, turn up the heat; when hungry, go to a well-stocked kitchen just a few feet away. I don't live with my head on a swivel. I haven't lost dozens of close friend, co-workers, brethren-in-arms and had to deal with the grief of losing them while knowing it was just inches away from being me.
Veterans have lived in a world I cannot imagine. I have no commanding officer nor anyone else yelling in my ear and demanding precision. They missed births, birthdays, tucking in and all the rest by accepting a job that sends them half a globe away from the ones they love for months sometimes years at a time. They do it for all-too-little pay, often times serving as political ping pong balls as citizens and elected representatives alike bicker and posture. And they do it all because they've sworn an oath to defend this, the greatest land on earth, from any and all who threaten her.
Thank you, from a grateful father and husband, America's veterans. You are the best this nation has. Extraordinary human beings in every aspect of the term. I sleep better at night knowing you are on that wall.

Just Call Me Grammy

It has been a very busy week!  Most importantly, my 6th Grandbaby arrived on Wednesday, October 9th.   He is precious and I am getting ready to leave shortly for a snuggle and a sniff.  Don't you just love the smell of newborns?  Straight from Heaven they are and I am so thankful for the precious gift of Jonas Luke.
Today, is also Homecoming for our firstborn Grandbaby Maddy...the doer of all things.  She is also the big sister of Jonas.  Pictures of this event will be posted soon!
Well, I have a full day ahead of me so I will not linger here.  I pray that you have a blessed and happy weekend...Mine surely is!  God is good!

Monday Morning

Well, here it is the beginning of another week...at my age they seem to come around quickly.  Daddy always said "Sister, the older you get the faster the years fly."  Daddy was right!  Looking back it doesn't feel like I have graced this planet for 61 years...61 years!?  I surely don't feel that old...Praise God.  Oh, don't get me wrong I cannot clean the house from top to bottom all in a days time anymore.  It took me all last week to get my Fall cleaning done...sheesh.  But, I got 'er done.
The baby shower was wonderful and we are blessed to be loved by family members, who so generously showered our Jonas with the things that he needs and more.  Now, we wait anxiously for his arrival...which is not easy at this point.  LOL.
Monday morning is the time for laundrocizing...so I'd best get the party started.  I pray that you have a wonderful week...God is good!

Busy...Busy...Busy

Don't you just love this time of year?  Cooler temps means hauling out the hoodies, striking up a campfire and cleaning around these parts.  Oh, and I mustn't forget that Hunting Season has arrived...and I already have 3 deer dressed and packaged in the freezer, thanks to our Grandkids Ian and Emilee and Son-in-law David.  It was pretty exciting to get the call that our Eman (as we call Ian) got his first deer.
Okay, upward and onward I go...I have been doing some Fall cleaning around here.  Much of our Summer is spent in the yard or sipping iced coffee on the back porch...So, that means that I am busy, busy, busy this week.  Plus, daughter Mandy and I are giving daughter Kelly a Baby Shower on Saturday.  Our Jonas is due to arrive this month!!!  He is our 6th Grandchild...our 4th Grandson and this ol' grammy is getting right anxious to meet him.  Happy!  Happy!  Happy!
Tomer is out mowing the yard...soon the leaves will be flying and that will be another tale to tell since we have 6 large trees gracing our yard.  Tomer is a lover of trees, flowers and gardens BUT is kind of over the garden.  I knew the time had come when he yanked out all tomato, green pepper, cucumber and melon plants!  The only thing left standing was his precious Hungarian Pepper plant!  LOL.
Well, it's time for a coffee break before I go on to other chores.  I am so thankful today for God's goodnesss...In Him I move and breathe...I press on.

God Is Good

Summer is winding down, birds gather and the leaves begin to change color and fall.  As Autumn arrives,  life slows it's busy pace and I look ahead...a new Grandboy will soon be here .  God is good!

"The Ten Commandments of Gardening"

Thou shalt be patient till it's thyme to garden.

Thou shalt be outstanding in thy field.

Thou shalt lovingly care for the Earth.

Thou shalt weed thy garden diligently.

Thou shalt take time to smell the flowers.

Thou shalt keep a fresh from the garden attitude.

Thou shalt give freely of the bounty of thy harvest.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors soil.

Thou shalt listen to your Garden Angels.

Thou shalt bloom where you are planted and
grow strong under God's tender care."

Summer Days

Today was a beautiful day!  Blue skies, lower temps and humidity... had Tom throwing the windows wide open and letting the breezes sweeten up the house.
Oh, how thankful I am for these long summer days.  They seem to pass so quickly now.  As a child, they seemed slower...times different, people kinder, gentler, even neighborly. Not so anymore...sigh.   What has happened to us?  Have we lost sight of what God intended for us...to bear one another's burdens, to love unconditionally and take responsibility for offenses, rather than blame the other person?
Seems this perfect Summer evening has gotten this ol' gal a bit melancholy.  I realize that longing for the past gets me nowhere, that I have to look ahead, expecting that The God of all... will as always, be there for me. And if I strive to seek Him...I will stay on the right path and be a kinder, gentler person...like Jesus.  God is the same...yesterday, today and forever.  In Him nothing changes!  Oh, how He loves us!
I am blessed.

About A Boy

Elek is our youngest Grandchild...He is a 5 year old  "know it all" and believe me, he has no problem correcting anyone!  He, has fashioned himself as the Bad Word Police and will stop you in your tracks if you utter a word that doesn't meet his standards!  Words such as...dumb, stupid, idiot, etc.  He doesn't hear curse words around these parts or at least that's what this ol' grammy thought.  Oh boy.
He is computer savvy and has shown this ol' grammy a thing or two, or three, or four...sheesh.  Anyway, on to my story.  He is a Gamer...when he comes to stay the night he can get himself to Nick Jr. on this computer and play his games.  BUT, we learned right quick to keep our ears open because unbeknownst to us, he can end up on YouTube with but a click. Imagine my horror when I heard a not so nice word!!!  "Elek James what are you watching!?"   It sure wasn,t Nick Jr.!
So, he has been warned by both his Papa and I," if we catch you on YouTube there will be no more Computer for you!"  Yes, we have become Computer Nazi's. LOL.  Well, the whole point of the tale is that last week, while at home...He says to his Mama "I need to go on YouTube to learn more "Bad Words" because, I am the Bad Word Police."   Imagine my horror, when I got the text from Kell informing me of this!?  Thankfully, his Mama agrees with us...No YouTube for you, young man!
Blessings Y'all.

Spring Fever

Hello friends, I pray that all is well in your neck of the woods.  This, my favorite time of year...the world bursting forth in all of God's glory, seems to be...when we find ourselves the busiest.  Three of our Grandbabies are ball players... So, we spend lots of time traveling to ball fields, searching for shade or trying to keep warm and dry.  What joy it brings us!   Although some days...like when we have sat through our 8th game of the week and wonder how we will ever find time to get anything accomplished around here...  We might not have as much pep in our steps.  But things get done (eventually) and we are looking forward to Summer...when things slow down a bit and we find time to sit a spell on the Back Porch Swing with a tall glass of Iced Tea or Coffee and marvel at Gods handiwork...but mostly, thank Him the Creator of All for his blessings...like another Grandson due in October, our daughter Kelly is expecting her 4th wee one!

Michigan My Michigan

I love Michigan!  The weather here is never boring and is always subject to change. After freezing temps and several inches of snow at the beginning of the month...we enjoyed  balmy temps in the 50's last week.  Call me crazy, but I saw people out and about sporting shorts!   Yeah, we are tough like that!  LOL.
This morning it was -1'....Brrrr. Believe me, I am not complaining.  I have lived in Tucson, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada...No offense, but they were deserts and I missed the changing seasons and landscapes.  Oh, and I really missed the snow!!!
The above photo was taken from my daughter's Facebook page.  (The dashboard of her car.)  Wow...I just had to share it.  6 months ago we hit 100' and this morning it was -1'....Yep, that's 101' colder!!!  Oh, Michigan my Michigan...you may be fickle but you are never boring.
~Blessings Y'all

It's winter here in Michigan
And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At twenty-five below.

Oh, how I love my Michigan
When the snow's up to your bu**
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut

Yes,the weather here is wonderful
So, I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave dear Michigan
My feet are frozen to the ground!

Hallelujah

Hallelujah...Hallelujah...Hallayyaaaahhlujah!  Read my last Post to understand why I am doing the dance of joy!  Ahhhh, now I am taking deep cleansing breaths.  Thank you Jesus!

P.S.  Don't you just love Cardinals?  They are my favorite bird...happy, happy, joy joy!

HELP

I was going to write a post but I cannot add a photo!!!  Why do they make changes that are supposed to be easy, peasy but end up confusing and aggravating?  Google has gone crazy and I am not far behind.
Hopefully, I figure this out or my OCD will kick into overdrive!  Prayers appreciated!
